Solid conservatory roof conversions on existing conservatories are becoming increasingly popular
we should know, we install a lot of them! If you are thinking of replacing the roof of your existing conservatory with a solid roof please hear this word of caution.
The structure of your existing conservatory will have been designed to carry the weight of the existing roof, when you replace the roof, Building Control specifies that you must re-calculate the load bearing based on the new roof.
A reputable installer will then gain Local Authority Building Control approval for the ‘whole’ structure – not just the new roof.
One of our consultants visited a customer recently who thought they needed a new set of French Doors. The problem they were having was that on unlocking, the French Doors would ‘spring’ open. On closer inspection our consultant identified that there was nothing wrong with the French Doors, it was that the new conservatory roof which they had installed a few years ago has bowed the frame of the conservatory and is causing the bricks in the dwarf wall to blow.
